Ouch

Well we all knew it was bound to happen, but I was hoping it wouldn't be so soon. Riley is all boy, and such a rough and tumble kind of kid it was only a matter of time before he fell really good. So he got his first scraped up, road rash face. He was chasing Uncle Max around the backyard and tripped over his own feet and landed on his face.

Kinda hard to see the damage, it didn't photograph well...

Check these out

A fellow June Mommy I know has begun making hats. Well she's been making them for some time, but she's decided to share her talents and let us purchase them. Take a look, they are adorable...

Almost One!

So Riley is almost one (11 days left) and I'm starting to get really nostalgic and sad. I can't believe how fast it has gone by and feel like the last year has been such a blur. I hope the little I have documented is enough, I feel like I should have done a better job, but I have been kinda busy with my rambunctious baby!!!

I googled "Rachel needs" and discovered the following.

  • Rachel needs to refer to Web sites, manuals, and a variety of documentation
  • rachel needs 2 get over herself and she needs 2 do it NOW
  • rachel-needs-some-good-thoughts
  • rachel-needs-netflix-friends
  • Rachel needs guidance and normal supervision
  • Rachel needs more caffine
Wow, I didn't know these things about myself (well okay I did know some of them).
Idea came from Tara. Feel free to copy on your blog. :)

Murphy's Law

So, this morning was one of "those" days. I woke up late (who turned off the alarm clock), and then Riley was fussy, so I tried feeding him to see if he would go back to sleep (no luck) and so I have to do the getting ready for work dance while holding Riley. Not easy. Then I have no clean work pants (what was in those loads of laundry my husband did?), so whatever, I am wearing jeans to work, better than not going in at all right? So I'm running late and we get in the car, Riley decides he doesn't want to go and screams the entire way to grandma's house (luckily it's only 6 minutes A LONG 6 minutes but could be worse), then screams when I hand him off to his favorite Auntie, "whatever kid, bye" is my response (I know, I'm horrible). Hmmm... I have no gas, so I stop at the gas station, of course all the pumps on my side are taken, so I turn around to back up next to a pump and some idiot went in the out driveway to go to the same pump and instead of stopping at the back pump he pulls up to the one I was trying to back into (and there is no one behind him but I can't fit there), so I readjust and pull into another stall. Okay, I have a full tank. Now there are 4 stop lights between me and the freeway, and how many to I get stuck at? That's right all 4. So here I am, late to work, wearing jeans, drinking a cup of awful coffee, and wondering what's next, it's only 7:34 am???

A Lab, I'm okay with that...

What dog breed are you? I'm a Labrador Retriever! Find out at Dogster.com
You are a Labrador Retriever!

Your family is what makes you tick, and you never "flea" from an opportunity to hang out with the whole gang. A family picnic complete with hot dogs, deviled eggs and a refreshing swim in the lake is hard for you to stray from. Your sparky temperament and dogged intelligence mean you are not only a blast to hang out with, but great to work with as well. Your close pals appreciate your patience and forgiveness, knowing you'd rather let sleeping dogs lie than dwell on the mishaps of the past. Your dashing good looks may one day lead to a modelling career, if only you can tame the unfortunate clumsiness that sometimes causes you to go flailing from the catwalk.

Bordom

Okay, so I'm supposed to be hard at work, and I just can't muster up the energy. So Riley's first Easter was fun. We went to the horse races (I know such a strange easter activity), and had dinner at Grandma's. Riley was kinda cranky, but that's Riley for you. Here is a pic of him in his Easter Outfit... (there are better pics, but he has a bib on and I want you to see his outfit)

Craziness

Being a mom is soo much harder than I thought, especially when you are tired all the time. It's a good thing they are so darn cute or I think we would have become extinct.
Riley has become very vocal, he talks all the time now and is very amusing at least to himself. It's very cute to watch him crack himself up all the time.
He also has started this cute thing where he scrunches up his nose when he smiles, here's a pic...

A letter to my Son

Right now there is a song out about writing a letter to your younger self. I don’t have much to say to my younger self, so instead I have decided to write a letter to my 8 month old son for when he grows up…

Riley,

I know everything is new and exciting and scary right now, and you are having fun exploring the world, and learning the hard way that sometimes you need to just sit down and listen to your mommy. I hope you never forget that lesson (and I hope you really learn it soon). Other things I hope you learn and never forget (maybe not the hard way):

I will ALWAYS love you and you can talk to me about anything and I will still love you even if you did something you think is unforgivable. Please don’t do anything that you think is unforgivable. You can always call me, I will come get you no matter where you are/what you’ve done. If you can’t call me, call Grandma.

Trust your instincts, they won’t fail you that’s why we have them.

Know the difference between right and wrong and always err on the side of caution.

Be nice to people even if they aren’t nice to you.

Learn patience, it will be one of the most important things you’ll ever learn, especially if you have children.

Don’t lie, especially to your friends and family. Lies only make things worse. Unless you’re telling your mommy she doesn’t look fat/tired/old, then it’s okay.

Always put 100% into anything you do, don’t do anything half-heatedly. If it’s not worth taking your time and doing it well, it’s not worth doing.

Better to try and fail then to never try at all.

Even if you don’t like school you still have to go, and if you are going to play hooky you better pray you don’t get caught cause momma won’t be happy, and at least don’t cut the classes you’re behind in. You will have plenty of time for playing, school is not the time.

If you learn from your mistakes then it makes them worth making.

Surround yourself with people who make you want to be a better person. It makes a difference.

Laugh at yourself and at life. Make time to sit down and watch a sunset, read a book, do something relaxing you enjoy. Life goes so fast, be sure you are enjoying it not just living it.

Don’t use the word hate, it is a very strong word and you better mean it. You don’t and never will hate me, you may think you do, but I know you don’t. I also know you love me even if you don’t say it enough.

I guess what I’m trying to say is I hope I raise you to be a good person, and I’m sorry for any mistakes I make/made. Just know that everything I did was out of love and that I never want you to hurt, but I also know that without a little hurt you can’t be a complete person. There are some lessons you have to learn yourself, I just hope you don’t get yourself into too much trouble learning them.

I love you, and I always will.

Mom

Starting Over

I've decided to start my blog with a clean slate. All my old thoughts are gone (or at least hidden) and I will try to be more positive and less bitchy. We'll see how long it lasts, I have a tendency of WAIT, never mind scratch that thought. Welcome to the new and improved Blog of Rachel.
